Political Humanity

NYC Mayor's Office of Sports Wellness and Recreation

As the founding Director of the Mayor’s Office of Sports, Wellness, and Recreation, Jasmine Ray positioned the office as a citywide leader in access, equity, and innovative recreation. She revived the Mayor’s Cup with more than 15 traditional and non-traditional competitions—from Robotics and E-Sports to Basketball and Dance—giving young New Yorkers new platforms to shine and broadening the city’s definition of sports and wellness.

Jasmine prioritized community investment by overseeing court renovations, renegotiating key contracts, breaking ground on new recreation centers, and celebrating local champions at City Hall. She also built MOSWR’s long-term foundation by forging partnerships with commissioners, borough leaders, CBOs, and professional sports teams; advocating for youth sports funding; elevating women and leadership in sports through panels and conferences; and welcoming international engagement, including global cricket initiatives. Her work established MOSWR as a cornerstone of wellness, equity, and opportunity for New Yorkers.
